Castle Island — Boston, MA

Castle Island– a place like no other. This destination I would recommend to quite literally, everyone. To start off, I am going to discuss whereabouts this so called “Castle Island” is. The island is located in the Boston Harbor, in Boston, MA. Although it is called an island, you do not have to take a boat to it, so plan on being on foot.

When you arrive at Castle Island, you can expect to see a full or nearly full parking area because it is a free attraction. Free is hard to come by nowadays, especially in or around the Boston area. Parking should not be a problem though, because public transportation may be used to reach the destination.

There are many fun things to do at Castle Island! First, I love to bring a beach towel and some sun tan lotion with me, and enjoy laying on the beach that is alongside the island area. This is fun, free, and the beach is usually pretty dead (not literally)! The beach is a tad rocky, more so just pebbles, but I would not consider it to be a “swimming beach”. The beach is more so for relaxing, catching a tan, and if it’s a nice day, you may see people kite boarding.

As you finish up your beach day, you can head on over for snacks at the snack bar at the start of the island. Buy a burger, get a shake, and sit down at a picnic table under a shady tree for your tasty meal. Next, you can choose if you would like to go to the park, or if you would like to make your way around the island. Personally, I do not attend the kids park, but I do like to stroll around the island. There is a big loop that goes all the way around, and areas where you can get closer to the water and rocks.
