Kylie Jenner

Instagram:

Currently, Kylie Jenner – a well known, social media, star, and icon, has a whopping 135 million followers (and counting)! Her Instagram continues to “take off” each day. Although she is followed by many, she only follows 127 accounts back. Her Instagram platform consists of text, photos, videos, tutorials, links to her sites, and more! She is definitely making the most of this platform! I do not see any room for improvement since she is a top Instagram mogul.

“The social media world is Kylie Jenner’s kingdom, and the rest of us just like, follow, and comment on it. As People reported on Thursday, May 3, Kylie Jenner is the most valuable influencer on Instagram, per data from social media insights and analytics firm D’Marie Analytics. According to the company’s calculations, one of Jenner’s sponsored posts is worth over a million dollars in “ad equivalent value.” Basically, thanks to how many people interact with her account (e.g., views, follows, link clicks, likes, comments), Jenner’s Instagram posts are valued at over a million dollars in traditional ad spending. The analytics firm added that she is the first member of the Kardashian-Jenner family to hit this milestone.”

Kylie tends to post daily. This is quite frequent in my opinion, however, it must be working because her platform is constantly expanding. With her large number of posts, 5,925, and millions of likes and comments rolling in each and every day, it is hard for her to keep up with the demand of interaction with fans. Although this is disappointing to many, I understand that it’s best for her to address her fans as a group, rather than individually. Personally, I think it would take thousands on a crew that would need to be hired if she were to reply to each fan!

I believe Kylie’s Instagram is in fact appropriate for all audiences. She does a good job (in my opinion) of maintaining a professional online presence in order to attract individuals of all ages and kinds. Since her audience is mainly teens (I believe), she tries to keep most of her content to a PG-13 level.

I think her comments back to fans, mentions, and more are also appropriate. Once again, I believe this is because she wants to have a professional appeal on social media. Overall, this is the image that she presents to her audience.

Twitter:

This social media platform lacks followers compared to her Instagram. On Twitter, Kylie stands at having 27.2 million followers. Unlike her Instagram, she follows a decent amount of accounts, specifically, 1,104.

Kylie posts less on her Twitter than Instagram, however, she still posts frequently. It seems to me that she favors posting content related to her companies. She is the proud owner of Kylie Cosmetics, and now, Kylie Skin. She posts lots of advertising for her brands, images of products, sales, new products, reviews, hashtags and more.

Occasionally, she will post more personal content. She will sometimes “tweet” her feelings, images of her family, give shoutouts, and the list only goes on! Additionally, she seems to be more interactive with her fans on this platform. She will sometimes retweet fans, and thank them for their support, compliment them, and more.

Recently, Kylie has been attacked on twitter in regards to her walnut facial scrub that Kylie Skin will be launching on May 22, 2019.

Here is what someone on Pajaba had to say:

“OK, so here’s the thing. I’m no dermatologist, but I know that walnut powder as an everyday exfoliator is a very bad idea. The merits of exfoliating creams or washes that use ground down nuts and similar products have been heavily debated over the past few years. St. Ives, the makers of maybe the most famous exfoliating facial scrub of the past decade or so, were sued in 2017 over claims that it was ‘unfit to be sold or used’ for its primary purpose. One dermatologist claimed that crushed peach stones or walnut shells was like using ‘sandpaper on your face’. As someone with psoriasis and acne on my face, I can attest to the sheer f*cking agony of using harsh face scrubs, and it’s especially sh*tty because products like that are the ones shoved onto you by salespeople and an entire industry that positions having bad skin as a sign of one’s overall cleanliness and social status.”

Facebook:

Kylie has a verified “Public Figure” page on Facebook. This page has over 22 million likes! So – yet another fan-filled page. This page includes a link to her cosmetics brand, along with many advertisements for her brands.

As of recent, Kylie posted she will be launching “Kylie Skin” on May 22, 2019. This is her skin care line that will be here soon. She has been posting videos of the products being made in her Kylie Skin factory, and has been updating her loyal fans as to what products she has, their ingredients, and more. She does not post as frequently on this platform as she does Twitter and Instagram.

It does not seem that Kylie corresponds with individuals via her Facebook page. I am going to assume that it is not actually ran by her and that she has someone manage it. Additionally, less people comment and like her postings on the page. I believe this is because her audience is mainly teens and I find that teens tend to favor other platforms over Facebook.

She seems to be more PG on this platform. Mainly, I say this because she posts mostly products and images of her family. I can’t seem to find many revealing photos on her Facebook page. With that being said – she has a professional look on the platform.

I think she could improve her Facebook. If she were to post on her Instagram and Twitter letting her fans know that she has a Facebook, I think those with Facebook accounts would start interacting with her more on her Facebook page. That is the one improvement that I think she should make.

Here is a link to one of her “Kylie Skin” videos that she has embedded into her Facebook: https://youtu.be/dakFbtpH7hw .

Digital Footprint

Kylie’s digital footprint is extremely broad. When googling her name, many links appear. These links include: a wikipedia page, her brand pages (Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin), several video links to YouTube, and information in regards to her house.

Kylie is a popular icon that is constantly being talked about. For this reason, many blogs, pages, etc. often post many updates in regards to her day to day life. An example of this is a posting stating that she got a new tattoo. Today, May 17, 2019, when I googled her, the top search items were in regards to her “new tattoo”.

Analysis

“The controversy that surrounds the Kardashian-Jenner family can often cause a media frenzy. The old saying goes, ‘any publicity is good publicity’, and this is certainly the case here. When rumors sparked about Kylie’s pregnancy, she spent nine months neither confirming nor denying the rumors by simply not addressing them. Although her Instagram activity decreased significantly, she used the publicity to continue to promote her cosmetics line; with eagle eyed users jumping at any glimpse of social activity that may divulge information.”

Kylie’s social media reaches counties across the globe. With that being said – I believe there is little room for improvement on all of her platforms. She does not need to try to reach individuals and/or fans. Fans and individuals simply flock to her.

Kylie Jenner started being on reality TV at a young age, allowing her to quickly grow a following. Years later when Twitter and Instagram took off, she already had a following behind closed doors that quickly seemed to quite literally “follow” her on all of the above mentioned platforms.

Overall – Kylie Jenner is someone I would consider a “cool” professional business woman. She has been featured as the youngest Forbes billionaire. She has been on multiple magazine covers, starred on many TV shows, attends celebrity events across the globe, and more. With the help of these other non-social media platforms, her success and following has only grown (quite rapidly) with time.

Case Study 4

Overview:

The celebrity I have chosen to focus on for the purpose of this assignment is Cardi B. Cardi B is a popular rapper from New York that became famous after she dropped her hit single, Bodak Yellow. Shortly after blowing up, Cardi began dating famous hip-hop rapper, Offset, also known for being in the rap group, Migos. Following dating for months, the two married. Today, they are still together and have an infant daughter, Kulture Kiari Cephus.

Social media wise, Cardi is quite the sensation. She currently has 6.4 million likes on her “Cardi B” facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheCardiBFanClub/). Although this is a lot, her competition (Nicki Minaj) is topping her likes by several million. Cardi also has a twitter account. She currently has 5.6 million followers. This is a massive number compared to how many people she follows. Cardi B happens to follow only 136 accounts on this platform. You can check out her astounding 22.6 thousand tweets here: https://twitter.com/iamcardib. Cardi’s twitter platform has been growing since October 2012. Lastly, she has an instagram, @iamcardib. She has 667 posts (currently), 42.2 million followers, and she follows 3,065 accounts.

Analysis:

Cardi B has a seductive profile picture on facebook. Her cover photo also is quite racy and features Bruno Mars. Under the “About” tab on her facebook, a phone number is included (maybe a booking line?), and links to multiple of her other social media platforms. Cardi has lots more on her page. On her timeline, the most popular posts seem to be her announcements about upcoming shows and concerts. These posts include pictures, videos, links to buy tickets, and even hashtags! The page is pretty cool in my opinion. It features links to buy her merch, links to purchase her album, her tour dates, and more. Lastly, this page has other pages liked, such as Fashion Nova!

It’s interesting that Cardi’s twitter resembles her facebook page quite well. She has the same profile and cover photos as her facebook account, on her twitter. Cardi tweets similar content to her facebook content on her twitter as well. It seems that she is consistent with her posting on both. An example of this is that if Cardi posts about an upcoming show on her facebook, she will typically post the same announcement to her twitter as well.

Cardi tends to tweet a lot, but will also consistently re-tweet stuff too. She tweets pictures, videos, does hashtags, tags individuals, and much more on her twitter account. If she could improve something, I would recommend having more contrast between her twitter and facebook accounts. I think it would attract more viewers to each of the platforms. On the bright side though, she seems to interact well with her audience on both platforms. Obviously, a celebrity so famous like Cardi B does not have enough time in the day to interact and correspond with everyone on twitter, or frankly, any platform.

Instagram — the platform that Cardi decided to change it up a bit on. She has a different profile picture on this platform! Cardi is smiling looking hip in a pink outfit in her profile image. In her bio, she includes her website link, her status as a “Public Figure” is shown, she has a youtube video link, and an email to contact for booking purposes.

On instagram, Cardi does well interacting with her followers. She posts lots of hilarious content – both photos and videos. I think she needs to improve on making her account a tad more PG. By this – I mean, she needs to filter what she posts a bit better, especially for the sake of her younger fans. I think she typically has mostly positive comments on her photos. Cardi seems like the funny type to just give the fans what they want.

Conclusion:

My favorite platform of Cardi’s is her instagram. I think it is raunchy, yet hilarious at the same time. She seems to interact best with her fans on instagram. This may be because she seems to be the most active on this platform. Overall though, all of her platforms have grown with her fame and continue to grow. There are not many negative things I can say about Cardi B’s social media.

Case Study

Overview:

The title of the blog I chose to analyze for the purpose of this assignmnent is The Sunday Girl. The blog I would categorize as a beauty blog. This is because all of the content pertains to hair, makeup, new beauty trends, and more. There is no clear author of the blog. I think the blog title is also who the author refers to him or herself as. The url link to the blog is: http://www.thesundaygirl.com/ .

Analysis:

The blog starts at the top with a trendy title. “The Sunday Girl” is written in an interesting font style (in a good way), and underneath there is a slideshow type of thing that shows new blog posts. The previews of the blog posts in the slide show may be clicked on, they will then expand so the viewer can read the entire post.

To the top right of the page, the header has five options that the viewer may scroll over and select. These categories include: home, about, work with us, categories, and a search box. All of these options will lead to different pages with blog posts, however, say you select “work with us”, you may enter your personal contact information to be in touch with the blogger. As far as information about the author goes, there is an “about” page that discusses which of the magizenes, other sites, etc. that the blogs have been featured in. Additionally, the page discusses the awards the blog has won.

There are social media links included throughout the blog. I think these “links” are considered widgets since they are little images that you may click on that are linked to the blogs other social media pages. These social media pages include: twitter, facebook, instagram, pinterest, and more. Another thing that is featured throughout the blog pages are sign up boxes to be on the email list.

Content:

This blog has an overload of content, but not in a negative way. There is just so much to read, view, and more, which makes it so attractive to viewers. Personally, I think the most popular posts are the ones in regards to makeup. During this day in age, people of all ages, and people from all over the world seem to use and wear makeup. This is what makes the makeup blog posts a hit. Many pictures are included in these blog posts, but in the other posts there are still lots of images as well. It seems to me that the blogger does not take the images, they look to be from online.

The titles of the blogs posts vary. Some titles are just a few words, however, others are full sentences. I like the variety in the titles, but I wish more information was given in them. For example, if the post is a review, then I wish “review” was included in the title. This would make it easier for the viewer to decipher which posts to read from the get go.

There is audience participation on the blog. Readers may comment on postings, like them, leave feedback, etc.. Additionally the audience is able to contact “the sunday girl” through the email provided on the page, and is given the option to direct message the blog on any of the other social media sites. I think these are nice options that are appealing to the readers of the blog. Personally, I do not really read blogs, but if I did, I think it would be nice to feel connected with the blog and blogger by having interaction.

As far as sharing on the blog goes, all posts are shareable to other social media. There are multiple social media links at the bottom of each blog post that give you the option to share the posting. Personally, I would feel no need to share a posting with any of the links. I think I would rather share a posting through text message. It does not look like this option is available when looking at the blog on my laptop, however, maybe it is if I were to be on the blog on my mobile phone.

Overall, I enjoyed the formatting of the blog, the content, surplus of images, helpful tips, and more. The main thing I wish I knew more about is the author. Although there is an about page, nothing mentions the bloggers name, or anything personal. All of the information on the about page pertains generally to the blog, not the author, which is a bit disappointing.

Castle Island — Boston, MA

Castle Island– a place like no other. This destination I would recommend to quite literally, everyone. To start off, I am going to discuss whereabouts this so called “Castle Island” is. The island is located in the Boston Harbor, in Boston, MA. Although it is called an island, you do not have to take a boat to it, so plan on being on foot.

When you arrive at Castle Island, you can expect to see a full or nearly full parking area because it is a free attraction. Free is hard to come by nowadays, especially in or around the Boston area. Parking should not be a problem though, because public transportation may be used to reach the destination.

There are many fun things to do at Castle Island! First, I love to bring a beach towel and some sun tan lotion with me, and enjoy laying on the beach that is alongside the island area. This is fun, free, and the beach is usually pretty dead (not literally)! The beach is a tad rocky, more so just pebbles, but I would not consider it to be a “swimming beach”. The beach is more so for relaxing, catching a tan, and if it’s a nice day, you may see people kite boarding.

Above you can see the pathway that can be walked around the island

As you finish up your beach day, you can head on over for snacks at the snack bar at the start of the island. Buy a burger, get a shake, and sit down at a picnic table under a shady tree for your tasty meal. Next, you can choose if you would like to go to the park, or if you would like to make your way around the island. Personally, I do not attend the kids park, but I do like to stroll around the island. There is a big loop that goes all the way around, and areas where you can get closer to the water and rocks.

See a better view of castle island above!
