Case Study

Overview:

The title of the blog I chose to analyze for the purpose of this assignmnent is The Sunday Girl. The blog I would categorize as a beauty blog. This is because all of the content pertains to hair, makeup, new beauty trends, and more. There is no clear author of the blog. I think the blog title is also who the author refers to him or herself as. The url link to the blog is: http://www.thesundaygirl.com/ .

Analysis:

The blog starts at the top with a trendy title. “The Sunday Girl” is written in an interesting font style (in a good way), and underneath there is a slideshow type of thing that shows new blog posts. The previews of the blog posts in the slide show may be clicked on, they will then expand so the viewer can read the entire post.

To the top right of the page, the header has five options that the viewer may scroll over and select. These categories include: home, about, work with us, categories, and a search box. All of these options will lead to different pages with blog posts, however, say you select “work with us”, you may enter your personal contact information to be in touch with the blogger. As far as information about the author goes, there is an “about” page that discusses which of the magizenes, other sites, etc. that the blogs have been featured in. Additionally, the page discusses the awards the blog has won.

There are social media links included throughout the blog. I think these “links” are considered widgets since they are little images that you may click on that are linked to the blogs other social media pages. These social media pages include: twitter, facebook, instagram, pinterest, and more. Another thing that is featured throughout the blog pages are sign up boxes to be on the email list.

Content:

This blog has an overload of content, but not in a negative way. There is just so much to read, view, and more, which makes it so attractive to viewers. Personally, I think the most popular posts are the ones in regards to makeup. During this day in age, people of all ages, and people from all over the world seem to use and wear makeup. This is what makes the makeup blog posts a hit. Many pictures are included in these blog posts, but in the other posts there are still lots of images as well. It seems to me that the blogger does not take the images, they look to be from online.

The titles of the blogs posts vary. Some titles are just a few words, however, others are full sentences. I like the variety in the titles, but I wish more information was given in them. For example, if the post is a review, then I wish “review” was included in the title. This would make it easier for the viewer to decipher which posts to read from the get go.

There is audience participation on the blog. Readers may comment on postings, like them, leave feedback, etc.. Additionally the audience is able to contact “the sunday girl” through the email provided on the page, and is given the option to direct message the blog on any of the other social media sites. I think these are nice options that are appealing to the readers of the blog. Personally, I do not really read blogs, but if I did, I think it would be nice to feel connected with the blog and blogger by having interaction.

As far as sharing on the blog goes, all posts are shareable to other social media. There are multiple social media links at the bottom of each blog post that give you the option to share the posting. Personally, I would feel no need to share a posting with any of the links. I think I would rather share a posting through text message. It does not look like this option is available when looking at the blog on my laptop, however, maybe it is if I were to be on the blog on my mobile phone.

Overall, I enjoyed the formatting of the blog, the content, surplus of images, helpful tips, and more. The main thing I wish I knew more about is the author. Although there is an about page, nothing mentions the bloggers name, or anything personal. All of the information on the about page pertains generally to the blog, not the author, which is a bit disappointing.
